Christians in Northern Nigeria under the aegis of the Northern Christian Association (NCA) has declared their support for the Catholic Bishops who recently met with President Bola Tinubu in the Presidential Villa.

The clerics had expressed their concern to Tinubu on the state of the nation, saying that the touted reforms by the federal government does not reflect on the average Nigerian.

But reacting to the statement by John Cardinal Onaiyekan on the outcome of the meeting, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Daniel Bwala, dismissed the cleric’s comments, alleging bias by the Catholic leadership.

But the NCA, in a statement yesterday, cautioned Bwala against what it described as divisive politics capable of undermining Christian unity.

The association said the Catholic Bishops who met with the President spoke on issues affecting not only Catholics but also Christians and Nigerians in general. They maintained that their message bothered on national interest, humanity and good governance.

NCA chairman, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, said the association would not allow anyone to create division within the Christian community for political reasons.

“Our members are Catholics, Baptist, ECWA, Methodist, Anglican, Pentecostals and people of all denominations. We refuse to be divided by Bwala’s politics of division,” Hayab stated.

He said the Cardinal and the Catholic Bishops who visited President Tinubu deserved respect.

“Our Cardinal is our respected leader and the Bishops that visited the President went to speak to him about humanity, Christians and all of us, not only Catholics,” he said.

He warned that any government official who chooses propaganda over addressing the genuine concerns of citizens was doing more harm than good to the nation.
