‘Agbara Nla – The Return’: Power Of Christian Storytelling

Nollywood faith-based film Agbara Nla: The Return has reportedly recorded more than ₦71 million in preview earnings, setting new box-office milestones ahead of its nationwide cinema run.

According to Nigerian Box Office, a box-office analysis and consultancy platform, the film generated approximately ₦70 million from 12,134 admissions during its preview period between September 25 and October 1, 2026.

The performance was reported as the biggest single-day preview gross ever recorded in West Africa, while its admissions figure was described as the highest first-day admissions recorded in 2026. The film also reportedly achieved the biggest first-day gross for a Nollywood title and the biggest single-day gross for October.

Distributor Nile Entertainment also celebrated the film’s performance, describing it as the biggest opening for a faith-based movie and highlighting its appeal to cinema audiences.

Agbara Nla: The Return is a modern reimagining of the classic Christian film Agbara Nla, originally released in 1993 by renowned Christian filmmaker, Mike Bamiloye. Its English version, titled The Ultimate Power, followed in 1994.

The new production revisits the story of Muwonleru, a village dominated by the powerful herbalist Isawuru. Two Christian believers, Olaboye and Olatomi, leave their city lives to spread the Gospel in the community, setting the stage for a confrontation between Christian faith and the spiritual influence of the herbalist.

Mike Bamiloye reprises his role as Isawuru, while Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua Bamiloye directed the new production. Other cast members include Aanu Kolade Abiodun, Remilekun Mosiko, Philip Olubakin, Gloria Mike-Bamiloye and David Kola Okeowo.

The film’s box-office performance highlights the growing commercial potential of faith-based storytelling in Nigeria’s entertainment industry and the ability of Christian filmmakers to bring religious narratives to mainstream cinema audiences.
