HeartCry Missionary Society has called on Christians in Nigeria and everywhere not to be deceived by the mixed and diluted messages being preached in certain quarters and passed as the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The U.S.-based missionary organization, founded by Paul Washer, made the call at its General Conference held at the Shepherdhill Baptist Church, Obanikoro, Lagos. The conference was organized in conjunction with Sovereign Grace Bible Church.
Two ministers who represented HeartCry, Ty Brogdon and Austin Huggins, took turns to speak on various topics, drawing from the central theme of the conference, “The Preeminent Christ”.
Reaffirming that the Gospel is primarily centred on Jesus Christ and what He accomplished for humanity on the cross, Huggins read from Colossians 1: 3-6. He maintained that the Gospel came before the present generation and has survived and transformed society – individual and family life, politics and government.
Speaking on the subject, “The Same Gospel Through the Ages: A Warning Against Its Neglect”, Huggins pointed out that anyone who has received Christ has no need to look for another source of fulfilment in life, as Christ is sufficient for all seasons and ages.
In his words, “Truth is not subjective; it is objective, whether we like it or we don’t. Truth is eternal reality. This truth when preached anywhere and mixed with faith produces same result.”
Huggins stressed that God is true irrespective of how we feel. “He is not true because He meets our needs or expectations,” he said. And reading from Isaiah 43: 9-11, he maintained: “He is God and there is no other.”
Huggins warned that this truth must not be neglected now or ever, adding that “The true Gospel has not changed in the mouth of faithful ministers”.
He urged Christians to guard, cherish and affirm the Gospel as handed down from the 1st Century believers and hand over the same good news to the succeeding generations.
Stick To The Real Thing
While speaking later on the topic, “The Essential Content of the Gospel,” Ty Brogdon urged Christians to avoid playing church and adhere to the essential message of what Christ came to accomplish on earth.
According to him, Christ’s mission was to pay the ultimate price to save mankind from sin and eternal separation from God. “You will never understand the sinfulness of sin until you see Jesus on the cross.” According to Brogdon, God the Father poured out His wrath against sin on His Son, Jesus.
Therefore, he said, no one would understand the value of what Christ accomplished for humanity until they understand the weight of God’s wrath against sin.
Brogdon said the reaction of every believer to this truth should be to hate sin and live unto righteousness.
