Why Israel Will Continue To Face Attacks

Whether the attacks on Israel by Iran ceases now or continues into the future, the Middle East will remain the world’s foremost hotspot and Israel will be in the eye of the storm until the return of Jesus Christ.

From a biblical perspective, the ongoing conflict surrounding Israel is not only geopolitical. Scripture presents it as spiritual, prophetic, and tied to God’s covenant purposes.

In this analysis, we would examine key biblical reasons why Israel will continue to face opposition, and attacks from its neighbours, and indeed from countries outside the Middle East.

Covenant: Israel Is Set Apart

The Bible teaches that God made an everlasting covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse” (Genesis 12:3).

And again, “The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession” (Deuteronomy 7:6).

Because Israel was chosen to carry God’s name, His law, and ultimately the Messiah to the world, it has always been a target. Opposition to Israel in Scripture is often opposition to God’s plan of redemption. And it does not matter whether anyone agrees or disagrees with this fact.

That spiritual dimension doesn’t disappear in modern times, despite the wrongly held view, derived from the displacement theology, that God is no longer interested in Israel of today.

Prophecy: Enemies Surrounding Jerusalem

The prophets and the New Testament speak of continued conflict in the “last days” centred on Jerusalem and the land of Israel. “I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling… I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves” (Zechariah 12:2-3).

Ezekiel 38-39 describes a future coalition of nations from the north and surrounding regions that come against Israel. Psalm 83 lists ancient neighboring peoples who conspire together “against your people”.

The pattern in Scripture is consistent: Israel’s neighbours, both ancient and modern, repeatedly align against it because of Jerusalem’s spiritual significance.

Also call to mind the popular lamentation by the Lord, Jesus Christ, when Israel rejected Him at His first coming: “Behold your house is left unto you desolate…” Luke 13: 35a).

Spiritual Warfare Behind Natural Conflict

Ephesians 6:12 reminds us “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against…the spiritual forces of evil.” From a biblical view, hatred toward Israel is also rooted in opposition to God’s promises.

Satan has sought to destroy the line of Abraham through which Christ came — from Pharaoh, to Haman, to Herod. The same spiritual opposition continues today as nations and ideologies rise against Israel.

Restoration and Refinement

The prophets also show that attacks on Israel are part of a larger story of God refining and restoring His people. Jeremiah 30:11 — “I will discipline you but will not destroy you.”

Romans 11:25-26 — Paul speaks of a future time when “all Israel will be saved.” The Bible presents conflict as painful but not final. It leads toward repentance, dependence on God, and ultimate restoration.

For believers and all who understand the times and seasons we are in currently, it is time to “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6). Also, recognise that behind news headlines are spiritual realities and prophecies being fulfilled.

Therefore, from a biblical perspective, Israel’s continued challenges are not random. They are tied to covenant, prophecy, and God’s redemptive plan for the world.

The attacks will continue until God Himself brings the final peace described in Zechariah 14 and Revelation 21 — when Jerusalem becomes the city of lasting peace under the reign of the King of kings, Jesus Christ.
