The Islamic Republic of Iran has blacklisted U.S.-based Iran Alive Ministries, accusing the group of spreading the Gospel in the country, in what the ministry says is confirmation that its outreach is having impact.

In a statement on its website, Iran Alive Ministries said the Iranian government has now placed it on an official blacklist. According to the ministry, “anyone found cooperating with us or providing us with information now faces severe consequences.”

New Law Raises Stakes

The ministry linked the action to a new espionage law enacted by Iran following its 12-day conflict with Israel in 2025. Under the law, individuals accused of cooperating with “hostile groups” can face lengthy prison sentences and, in some cases, the death penalty.

Citing data from Christian rights monitor Article 18, Iran Alive said at least 5 Christians have already been charged under the new law and sentenced to a combined total of more than 40 years in prison.

The development is expected to increase risks for underground churches and ministries operating inside Iran, where conversion from Islam and evangelism are already criminalized.

“The Gospel Is Advancing”

Despite the blacklist, Iran Alive Ministries described the government’s action as evidence that its work is reaching Iranians. “While some may see this as a setback, we see it as a confirmation that the Gospel is advancing,” the statement read.

“This latest action by the Iranian regime is a stark reminder that the message of Christ is reaching places the government cannot control.”

The ministry quoted Matthew 5:10: “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Call For Prayer

Iran Alive is calling on Christians worldwide to pray for protection, courage, wisdom and boldness for believers inside Iran who continue to share their faith under pressure.

“As you have faithfully done for so many years, we invite you to continue standing with us as we reach Iranians with the hope and love of Christ,” the ministry said.

“Your partnership equips our teams and dedicated volunteers to strengthen, encourage, and care for believers inside Iran as they minister under extraordinary pressure and at great personal risk.”

The group expressed hope that “one day Iran will be transformed by the Gospel.”

Iran ranks number 9 on the Open Doors World Watch List 2025. Most of the country’s Christian population worships in house churches due to restrictions on public Christian gatherings.
