Leader of Koinonia, an apostolic ministry with headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, Apostle Joshua Selman, has showered praises on the United States of America for its contribution to the spread of the Gospel across the world.

Apostle Selman, who is currently on a tour of Britain, Canada and the U.S. for Koinonia’s annual Sounds of Revival outreach, made the commendation in Atlanta, Georgia, during one of the revival meetings.

He specifically mentioned several renowned evangelists, missionaries, and church leaders who worked tirelessly to bring the Gospel to Nigeria and Africa as a whole. According to him, some of the missionaries left their homes having made up their mind that they might never return to Europe or America again.

He said some died from diseases and sicknesses they contracted in the missionary field, while others were killed by communities that were hostile to the Gospel.

Earlier, he listed the various areas in which the church in America has impacted the world, particularly Nigeria and Africa – through the media, books, education, health care, and Gospel music, among others.

Apostle Selman noted that many of the ministers of God being used mightily in and outside of Nigeria currently came into the faith through the ministrations of preachers and missionaries from the U.S.

Correcting Errors

Apostle Selman, however, did not just praise the positive contributions of the American church to Africa, he also noted that the state of the church in the U.S. today leaves much to be desired.

“The current state of the church in America is an attack from the kingdom of darkness,” he said, adding that “Satan plotted this for decades and the church in America lost her sensitivity. The current state does not reflect the sacrifices and price paid” by those notable men and women Christian missionaries.

He lamented that Satan waited for the generals of God to leave the scene before launching his attack succeeding generations, who are not as grounded in the truth of God’s Word as their forebears.

He attributed this development to three major errors which some ministers of God, though well intentioned, were not sensitive enough to observe and avoid. Apostle Selman listed them as errors of apostasy, wrong application of biblical truth and imbalance or incomplete communication of truth.

While acknowledging that currently, “Africa is God’s prophetic centre for the Gospel,” he cautioned that those being raised to bring correction in the teachings of God’s Word in America must be do so with the spirit of humility and not assume the posture that they are infallible.

At a point in his ministration, Apostle Selman asked the large crowd to stand and join in singing the U.S. national anthem, drawing applause from the worshippers. He explained that the gesture was to honour the Americans who had been used by God to reach Africa with the Gospel.
