The Importance of Prophetic Art

The Importance of Prophetic Art

Prophetic art is God’s rhema word made manifest through creativity. This powerful word through art can bring light, healing, love and hope. It is like medicine to the soul and has the ability to change lives and cultures with its message.

Prophetic art is not new but rather has deep roots in church history. God has used creativity and art to reveal Himself since the time of Moses. He anointed Bezalel in the Old Testament and filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him creativity to build the Tabernacle. There are other accounts in the Bible where God inspired Noah to build an ark and Solomon to create a magnificent temple. God created man in His image and gave him the innate ability to create and to bring glory to Him.

Over the centuries there are countless examples of God continuing to inspire His children to create and their work has inspired generations. During the Renaissance period there were several famous artists who emerged and who inspired people by their art. For example, Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel in Rome with “The Creation of Adam” which has inspired thousands over the centuries by its beauty. Another example is the Isenheim Altarpiece, created by Niclaus of Haguenau and Matthais Grunewald, giving testimony that God died taking a rare skin disease on His body to the cross for their country. These famous historical art pieces and countless more serve as a constant visual reminder of God’s love for mankind.

The church today needs to continue the tradition of embracing anointed artists and to allow their art to inspire communities and cultures. This art can change atmospheres by leading many into a deeper understanding and relationship with God. There are countless testimonies throughout history of how art has changed lives and has brought healing, hope and light. Why would we think that God no longer uses art to transform lives today? Art is a very powerful tool in God’s arsenal against the enemy that can pull down strongholds and allow His light to shine through the darkness. Many prophetic artists today can tell you of numerous testimonies of how their art has touched lives, brought healing and led souls to God.
