‘You Are Great’

‘Demons tremble at your presence/What a mighty God we serve/Glory, glory, hallelujah/Everything written about you is great…’

These words resonate within the heart of a believer as he sings this song to his Creator. Feelings of safety, assurance and boldness vie for a place in our hearts as we sing, no, declare these words to the heavens and the enemy — our God is mighty; He is victorious and so are we too.

This line is gotten from the ‘You Are Great’ song by Steve Crown, a Benue State-born gospel minister. Born Steve Crown Okolo, this singer comes from a family of six and is fully committed to advancing the Kingdom of God through music.

He is a music director in several choirs and owns his own entertainment company called Lakelight Entertainment, which he says he established to “help young people discover their purpose in life, to save lost souls, teach the youths to work hard to achieve their goals and to discover the Greatness of God”.

He has released up to 8 songs within the span of two years, accompanied with videos recordings. Some of them include: ‘Healing Wings’, ‘Imela’, ‘Awesome God’, ‘You Alone’, ‘We Wait on You’ and his most popular, ‘You are Great’.

Ever since the song, ‘You are great’ was released on the 10th of September 2015, it has become an anthem for believers across Nigeria, Africa and the World. It proclaims the awesome power of God and the line, ‘everything written about you is great’ seems to declare that the Bible indeed is the best testament to the sheer greatness of God. From Jesus walking upon the sea, to raising the dead, there is no question that God does not do things small measures. The simplicity of its lyrics makes it easy to grasp and sing along to.

The harmony of the instruments, the percussion, piano and violin give the song a beautiful melody that accompanies the inspirational lyrics. The blending harmony of the back-up singers do not distract from the main goal of the song – to proclaim the majesty of our great God.

The voice of singer, a wonderful tenor, is just right and he manages to portray the emotions that the lyrics provoke.

If you are feeling low, defeated and have that annoying notion that your problem is certainly too difficult for God to handle, put on this song and sing down that mountain. The God who parted the red sea, walked on the sea, raised dead people and did amazing things as recorded in the Bible is still very much alive, has not changed and is more than willing to step into that situation and turn it around for your good. He is awesome and, certainly, great!

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature...
