Israel has again made known its readiness to rejoin the ongoing war between the United States and Iran, which recently shattered hopes of an end to the conflict after both countries signed a memorandum of understanding for a 60-day ceasefire.
The Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Yechiel Leiter restated Israel’s partnership with the U.S., saying that any moment Israel is invited to rejoin the war, there would be no hesitation by the Jewish nation.
Speaking on CBS Face the Nation, Leiter said: “When the United States signed the MoU with Iran just a few weeks ago, there was one item, just one thing, that the Iranians had to fulfill: that was keeping the Straits open, and that they’ve completely ignored.”
Amid the battle for control of the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. has targeted not only military facilities but also civilian infrastructure, including bridges, airports, and telecommunication.
According to a statement by the U.S. Central Command, the US launched a wave of strikes against Iran on Thursday, the sixth night in a row.
It explained that the attacks were aimed to “further degrade Iranian military capabilities”. But Iran state media reported that the US had hit civilian infrastructure, including bridges, a train station and an airport.
“U.S. forces, including fighter jets, aerial drones, and warships, launched precision munitions that hit dozens of Iranian military targets such as coastal surveillance and air defense sites, military logistics infrastructure, and maritime capabilities. This was the sixth consecutive night of U.S. strikes against Iran,” CENTCOM stated.
However, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has also stepped up its retaliation against the U.S. by targeting more U.S. military bases in the Gulf countries. Some of the facilities hit, according to the Iran state media, include US maritime surveillance radar sites in Oman as well as targets in Kuwait and Bahrain, as well as US special operations command centre in Syria.
