Why Men Must Be Men

“If we can win the men, we win the family and if we win the family, we win the nation.”

This is the formula presented by the senior Pastor of the Fountain of Life Church, Taiwo Odukoya, for restoring the fabric of any society which foundation is broken, as is the case in many places today.

Pastor Odukoya who was speaking on the theme “Subdue”, at the Discovery for Men Rally 2017 held on April 24th, 2017 in the church auditorium at Ilupeju, Lagos, challenged the gathering of men to take charge and have dominion on earth as originally ordained by God in the Garden of Eden before the fall.

Basing his sermon on Isaiah 45, he exhorted the congregation on God’s prophecy concerning Cyrus, the king of Persia. “Long before he was born, God had anointed him for a specific purpose, to rebuild the city of Jerusalem.” As a result, he said that it is impossible for God to call somebody without equipping him and the reason why most people fail is because they strive to do things that they have not been called to do.

Pastor Odukoya attributed the problem of man to lack of trust in God. “If you focus on the fear of the future, you will focus on gloom,” he said. But he proffers a solution. He gave three strategies to overcoming this fear: trust, discipline and courage.

He cited the example of Joshua who probably felt that it would be quite impossible to fill the shoes left by Moses but at every point in time God encouraged him to be courageous. “When Jesus has spoken a word in the Bible, it would be foolishness to ignore the word. All I must do is trust Him to fulfil His promise. How he will go about it, I have no idea; that’s not my business. My job is to trust.”

Affirming the scripture that says, “The just shall live by his faith”, Pastor Odukoya encouraged the men to learn to speak exactly what the Bible says and stop aligning with the lies of the devil.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature...
