‘Look Up, And Lift Up Your Heads’

If you want to know how bad things have become in our world today, just pick up a couple of the dailies wherever you are, or better still tune in to the major news channels. Immediately, you get an eerie feeling of a world uncontrollably racing towards a destination that is determinedly catastrophic.

Is our world destined for destruction?

Humans have attempted in their thinking to distance themselves from the idea of the earth going into extinction or human life as it is known today ceasing to exist, or being called to account someday for their deeds on earth.

This line of thinking is part of what has propelled some to engage in bizarre actions that normal humans cringe at, but which today grab the headlines; wars, slavery of all kinds, murder and rape even by close relatives, cannibalism, homosexuality, kidnapping, forced marriage and a host of other reprehensible and repugnant criminal behaviour.

Also related to these bestial manifestations are human activities that have resulted in the degrading of the earth systems and the accompanying natural disasters that continue to claim precious human lives and physical infrastructure.

For ages, constituted authorities have striven to rein in those considered to harbour these extreme anti-social tendencies by handing out penalties as a deterrent to their actions, yet it appears that man’s darkest instinct remains to be fully made manifest. The more humans attain greater heights in their living conditions by virtue of technological advancement, the further they drift from every sense of decency.

The bad news is that this conflict of good and evil, light and darkness will remain with us till the end of this age. The governments of the world, the United Nations and other global interventionist institutions will incapable of handling the humongous social, political, health, economic and numerous other challenges that are coming upon the nations. The good news, however, is that light will eventually triumph over darkness in the end.

What this calls for, brethren, is to cast away every form of fear of what could happen in the days ahead; we should read and listen to the horrible headlines but by no means be depressed or lose hope on account of the things happening around us.

Indeed, the growing dark cloud presents the children of Light the opportunity to let their light shine. Why? Because it is all prophesied, and the bottom line is that those who belong to Christ and understand what He has foretold concerning the present times, will not lose sleep.

“And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” Luke 21:28

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature...
