For the first time in the history of Aboh in Delta State, a monarch of the ancient kingdom has publicly declared his loyalty to the King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus Christ, saying “I am addicted to Jesus”.

Dr. Gregory Nnamdi Oputa, Obi Oputa III of Aboh Kingdom, made this declaration in Aboh during a special thanksgiving of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Diocese of Ndokwa, where he was the Special Guest of Honour.

The service, held under the Ecclesiastical Province of Bendel, brought together clergy, chiefs, palace officials, and a large congregation in what church leaders described as a celebration of faith, royalty and community.

While addressing the congregation, Obi Oputa III expressed delight at discovering that the first church established in Aboh Kingdom was Anglican. He said the Church laid a critical spiritual and cultural foundation for Aboh, and has continued to shape the values, education and moral life of the people over the decades.

In a show of support for the work of the Church, the monarch pledged support toward the church’s ongoing building project, which drew loud applause from worshippers.

The Bishop of Ndokwa Diocese thanked the Obi for the gesture, praising his leadership, devotion to God, and commitment to the spiritual and socio-economic development of Aboh Kingdom and the wider Ndokwa nation.

Both the leadership of the church and the royal delegation reaffirmed their commitment to peace, unity, moral values, and the progress of Aboh Kingdom.

According to a statement from the Palace, the event is the latest example of Obi Oputa III’s reign, which strives to bridge traditional leadership with Christian faith for the advancement of his people.
